The Devastating Consequences of the Cold War
After World War II, the United States and the Soviet Union emerged as the world's two superpowers, The British Empire steadily declined in both size and influence in world affairs, For a time the United States maintained a monopoly on atomic weapons, That ended when the Soviets detonated their first atomic bomb in August 1949, Both superpowers expanded their nuclear arsenals in the 1950s and 1960s, The prevalence of warheads delivered by airplanes was joined by those delivered by artillery, launched from submarines, and by growing arsenals of intercontinental ballistic missiles.

    These circumstances seem familiar because human nature is the same today as in all of history. Read the Bible and you will find oodles of sex, murder, theft, love and death. Pray to your creator God, Repent of your sins, accept Jesus Christ as your Savior and follow the tenets of the Gospel and prepare his second coming.

    Although it is a part of history, The point of history is to not repeat it. My family came over as Irish slaves in the late 1600s. And then we ended up as extremely poor farmers in the mountains. However, I do have the privilege of living in the path of Turner‘s rebellion. Being surrounded by rich history, and knowing that there were people out there willing to fight for the freedoms that they have received is a miracle. Whether it was monetary or not, we all had to pay a price to live the lives that we have today. I read a comment that said “cherry picking”.. It is true in the sense of so many aspects of our lives. People like to tell their favorite parts of the story instead of the whole story and unfortunately there is no one that knows the whole story, except God. He has given our human race, the strength and the compassion to continue to move forward. And I am grateful for the progress. However, we are moving backwards in so many aspects of morality and ethics. We need to remember that we are all of the same. The breath of life was given to all of us. And for those of you that don’t remember, Jesus was not a white man with blue eyes. It is our job to come together and to love one another. Not only do we need to stand up for our basic human rights, But also our basic human freedom that is being questioned with the administration choices that we have today. We are all brothers and sisters in Christ. I don’t care what color your hair is, what tone your skin is, Or where you originate. God bless💜

    Charles II was a very tragic character who suffered through a lot of pain throughout his life. One thing that strikes me was that he was in fact very much in love with his first wife, Marie-Louise d'Orleans, and while she was initially repulsed and terrified by his unusual appearance, in time she came to love him as well. Unfortunately, though, she had a tough life at the Spanish court - she found it grim, rigid and unwelcoming, her mother-in-law openly disliked her, and the couple's inability to conceive was blamed solely on her. She was forced to undergo painful fertility "treatments" that caused her health to decline. She found comfort in drinking sweet beverages with an extremely high concentration of sugar, which led to her gaining a lot of weight and developing gastrointestinal problems, eventually resulting in her death. Charles was completely devastated by her death, but he couldn't even mourn her properly, because his mother wasted no time in marrying him off to another woman, hoping to secure that much-needed heir (which of course didn't happen). The loss of Marie-Louise precipitated his mental and physical deterioration, and by the time he died some ten years later, at age 38, he was already senile and had multiple organ failure. In many ways, every single misfortune he suffered in his life can be blamed on his family's obsession with retaining power.

    Oh boy here's some more lies. Okay let's ask a question who was the wealthiest slave owner in the world. If you said he was black and in Africa you would be right. Which religion profited more from slavery than any other. If you said Islam you would be right. Were slaves offered freedom in America. In fact slaves were offered freedom to fight for the British in the American revolution and during the civil war in yet they most did not leave. Do you want some more lies about slavery. Codeine with the French code for slavery in Louisiana and Louisiana territories did you know slaves actually owned slaves. I hear some unhealthy Truth for those who stole disbelieve about the evidence that I'm presenting did you know in most plantations in the South and North America they were right next to the Masters homes. You know it's also interesting that there was no Gates there was no walls there was no barriers between them and their owners in fact they loved their owners and many of them took on their owners last name. The truth about propaganda inciting racial division and the truth about what really went on in slavery is something you have to get an education on.😂

    At 6;30 you say that the Islanders "Never heard any instructions from their Government" where you are referring to the British Government in London. However, Jersey and Guernsey each had their own Governments and parliaments, and still do. These governments continued in a restricted way during the Occupation, because the Germans realised that it would be easier to control the civil population via their own leaders. The Government in London was not (and has never been) the Islanders' government. At 6:38 you refer to English citizens where you mean British citizens. The Islands are not English, but they are British. English people are also British, as are Scottish and Welsh people. At 16:45 you refer to "British people in the Channel Islands" but the deportation notice at that point in the accompanying video (when you read it carefully) specifies which British subjects were to be deported - the majority of the "British people in the Channel Islands" were not subject to the deportation order. The deportations did not apply to Jersey and Guernsey people, all of whom were British but they were not English. At 25:50 you say that "the Channel Islands were part of the United Kingdom again." The UK comprises Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) plus Northern Ireland. The Channel Islands are not, and have never been, a part of the UK but we are a part of the British Isles. I concede that it can be confusing: many English people make the same mistakes!

  • @ianm452
    @ianm452 Před měsícem

    Although the commentary gives a reasonable overview of the German Occupation of the Channel Islands, many details are incorrect. For example, you often refer to "Nazi officers" and "Nazi soldiers." The occupiers were Germans, only some of whom would have been Nazis, and their army was the German army, not the Nazi army. (See the Army's percentage composition below.) The misuse of Nazi appears to be a modern sanitisation of the truth, as if seeking to absolve Germany from its responsibility for the war and our occupation. In 1939, Britain declared war on Germany, not on the Nazis or their political party. (Chamberlain’s BBC broadcast was unequivocal: “This country is at war with Germany” - not the Conservatives at war with the Nazis.) In the Channel Islands, we have always referred to the German Occupation*, not the Nazi Occupation. Like France, we were occupied by Germany and Germans. We have German bunkers, German gun emplacements and German war tunnels, not Nazi bunkers etc. Not all Germans were Nazis and the words "German" and Nazi" are not interchangeable. Historian Sir Richard Evans* (quoted in this article: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazism_and_the_Wehrmacht#National_Socialists_within_the_armed_forces ) states that only a third of junior German army officers had become Nazi party members by 1941, whilst historian Omer Bartov is quoted in the same article as writing that the percentage in 1941 for senior officers was even less. In July 1940, (when those German officers arrived in the Islands), the proportions would, by implication, have been lower; although they increased as the war progressed. (Wikipedia may not always be reliable, but on this occasion it quotes reliable sources.) *Sir Richard Evans FBA, FRSL, FRHistS, was Regius Professor of Modern History at Cambridge University until he retired.
