AI Godfathers Scary Thoughts on UBI
In this video, we're diving into some eye-opening insights on UBI and AI from Geoffrey Hinton, often called the "Godfather of AI." Hinton warns that AI could replace about 50% of jobs in the next decade, and he has some big thoughts on what this means for our future. He discusses the impact of AI on job loss, the widening wealth gap, and the rise of political populism. We'll explore his proposed Universal Basic Income (UBI) solution and why he believes it’s only a partial fix. Plus, we'll discuss what is Hinton's student, Ilya Sutskever’s approach regards AI.

Oddly, I thought Sam was nuts when he proposed UBC... But that would democratize AI. While people who cant string words together to make a coherent sentence, can sell their monthly allotment to AI companies. The people could also sell to the highest bidder or refuse to sell to a company that may be using AI irresponsibly... I honestly cant see how we get there from here, but I think thats what he is proposing.

It is commonsense to assume that with the emergence of AI models which are 'Conversational', English language has gained the potential to generate results from them just replacing well-written codes. What we are doing by coding...? Just generate meanings which a computer system can understand and making it able to provide the result as output. So in the place of a 100 line code, if a Conversational AI tool can be made to generate the same result with a 5 line prompt, which would be better..? Another thing is we can generate code from images and even videos because the entire AI related languages like Python, Javascript etc are there in the trained brain or memory of the AI systems. Hence almost all their potentials and possibilities were already tapped by the AI systems. But the case of a language like English is different, the prompts that can be made have got infinite possibilities. As long as human beings exist and the multimodal improvements in AI models grow, the diversity and complexity of prompts in English are poised to increase. So we can say as long as these technologies are headquartered in USA and the developments in the AI have an English face, prompting in English and English as a language will have its own relevance, real potential and significance. This is because English is the Universal language and no Chinese, Russian or French language can replace it easily considering the majority world population using English as their Computer language. But there is a need to ensure that the systems do not generate any cultural or geographical biases. 👍

Started learning programming almost a year ago, learned for a few months and made good progress, but when AI started to become so powerful and a genuinely capable aide to writing code I lost motivation and forgot about it for a while, because I felt like it didn't matter to learn it anymore because soon computers will be able to do it better than me. But I recently started to pick it back up. Knowing a programming language is like knowing a spoken language; every language you know gives you more power. Sure, I can somewhat communicate with someone in French with google translate, but being able to actually talk to someone in French by yourself empowers you and lets you do things you otherwise would struggle with, like going to live in France for instance. And likewise, knowing how to program and how programming languages work gives you great insight into how computers work, and knowing how to really use a computer at a deeper level by yourself is incomprable to just having an aide write code for you.
