Composed by Enrique Sanchez - COPYRIGHT 2010 . . . .Around 1986, a friend of mine, Isaac Santos, lent me a group of poems that he had written so that I would set them to music. I recorded a few sketches of myself singing with piano accompaniment. This song was the first composition.

This is a picture tribute with music for the great 50s actress LIZABETH SCOTT. Her sultry, sexy presence made an impression with me from day one! The background music is by the legendary Benny Carter, I call it the theme to Crimson Witness.
Yes Gracie could and did dance. She did a nice number with Eleanor Powell, "Honolulu" as someone else noted below here in the comments. Such fun and grace (pardon the pun).
Always the best dressed and classiest couple in show business. Legends!

Gracie did a neat bit of hoofing in 'Honolulu' (1939), when- uniquely- she played a part separated from George till the last scene. Her straight (wo)man and dancing partner was Eleanor Powell, no less.

William Perry's music is so heartwarming and soulful. My first experience was his score for "The Gold Rush", perhaps his best work. Over the years I have tried to collect his settings. Unfortunately, almost all releases on VHS tape are of very poor quality (especially the sound quality). @@zgh46840 I think they were equally talented, but verry different gifts. From George's memoirs, he clearly adored her. I can see why. I wish I'd have known her. She must've been a lovely, gracious, funny lady.
Chris Drake my grand mother met Gracie Allen walking down the street in New York City. She said that Gracie was just as gracious and funny as you would hope. Just not as loopy.

Gene Krupa - Keith Moon's idol.
Gene Krupa is the first rock and roll drummer.He's the model for Ringo and Kieth Moon before they were even born.That's one of the reasons it's a mistake to compare him to the more technically proficient drummers who followed.In fact,this boogie-woogie style re-enters popular music in 50's with bands like Bill Haley & The Comets,with whom Krupa would've likely fit in nicely.The influence of the intense energy and charisma Krupa produced as a musician and performer is clearly evident in the personas and playing of Ringo Starr and Kieth Moon. ""Forget about the fancy techniques"",Krupa might have said. "It's all about the wild,joyous rhythm.So swing man,swing!!"
I'm glad to see there is someone else who is very fond of William Perry's score; it is indeed a treasure. I don't know if it has been made available on a DVD version, or if it ever will, since the presentation of silent films can be a tricky business: different runnings speeds, different edits make matching a score from one print to another a long job. This is a fine film, and I too could not be without this lovely score from Mr. Perry. Thank-you and may God Bless your kindness!
Thank you so much! JB! In fact, there are no recordings, years ago I wrote to him and found this out. There isn't even a "written score of this masterpiece! :( God bless you for recognition! It is rewarding to discover someone else who adores this marvelous score! I really cannot appreciate more recent scores...and they seem to be taking over the landscape more than this one. Oh well...at least we have this one for the ages!
How sad that there isn't a written score. I'm glad you took the time to seek out Mr. Perry; what a fine artist he was. No doubt he was gracious in reply. I assume the best sound quality of the piano score, would be on the laserdisc version. I hope one day to get a laserdisc system set up (slightly difficult here in the UK) and take a transfer from it. If it turns out well, I shall upload it here on CZcams. I was in hopes that a company like Kino would source the original masters for this score and add them as an option to a DVD or Blu-Ray edition; perhaps it is impossible, but I still hope :) William Perry had the fine talent to supplement the film, without getting in its way - and yet have his work remain memorable. Any time I watch this, I do end up whistling the main themes for the next few days! Thank-you again for posting!
JB: It was sad to find out, he said all he had from that music were bits of music paper, here and there that he used to concoct the marvel you and I cherish so much - and that he did not have plans on putting the notes down in a score and there was no outside interest in him recording it either. :( But we should still speak of him in the present, although born in 1930, he appears to be much alive. But I gave up hopes of a score or re-recording of it a long time ago. I HAVE heard of the laserdisc version and would LOVE to hear it transferred. Please do inform me when you get around to that! THAT would be an uncommon thrill! I also lost hope that Kino would add it as an option. Goodness knows I have searched high and low for it and have scoured the Internet for any mention of Perry's score. What a pleasure to find fan of this music! Thanks again!
Cubanbach, I do feel so perfectly foolish for speaking of Mr. Perry in the past-tense! I am delighted to see he is still with us. May God Grant him many more blessed years! By the way, it seems there are other fans of William Perry piano scores for silent film here on CZcams (but of course!). If you do a search for "The General (1926) - Original piano score by William P. Perry" you will see that someone has gone to great lengths to match the piano score for that film to a new Blu-Ray transfer. It is this level of detail that I hope, one day, to apply to Orphans of the Storm - I hope it will be a success! :^)

Mr. Hoffman, I have no idea what you're talking about...there were no black artists playing in the clip that I used to present this version. If there were another clip with these black artists playing, there would not have been any reason for me to exclude them. The rudeness is all yours, sir, in presupposing an action for which I am not culpable.
By golly, you're SO right! I wonder why my version was different...I do remember Hollywood Hotel the movie I will HAVE to watch it again! I adore Lionel Hampton! I see why you would think I cut them out so mercilessly...it's the version I happen to have found online eons ago~! Now to be honest, it appears to be two different ensembles playing back to back. All is forgiven, you had a very honest complaint! No, worries here, I am just glad you pointed it out and got to discover or perhaps, rediscover, the delightful musings after the blaring horns! :) Please take care, Mr. Hoffman and thank you so much!

As I have previously posted, Gene took the drummer from the banger at the back to the performer at the front, technically Buddy may have been better but he was by all accounts an arsehole, Gene was a lovable, kind and gentle man who didn't deserve his untimely death from Lukeamia, to quote Benny, 'Gene was the best', I have, in my life achieved everything I have ever wanted, visited every country I ever wanted, lived a lovely life, but never seen Goodman in full flight, James, yes Benny no. sad

It is a good clip because of the first try. It was like a big surprise when you did it well after failing, like that story about the ugly duckling, you know? And also your humility. It was really a crazy day. I had to wait from 12 noon to almost 10 pm at night to sing. I was exhausted and we were not allowed to leave the studio to rest after the rehearsal. I smoked a few cigarettes - and even though I tried to have my throat wet. It was so dry. But I was determined to finish. I was lucky, they actually stopped the taping when I said no! And then they decided that I did so good in the rehearsal, that I was allowed to finish the song. I got a standing ovation. :)
